“Experience is key… as long as you keep pushing through, you don’t need all the answers. The answers will come.”

Watch our very first episode of Beyond the Recipe, in conversation with Paola of Highland Park’s beloved Amara Kitchen on how she started the concept, pivoting the business in light of Covid, and how she plans to expand her business.

Paola Guasp is the owner, chef and co-founder of Amara Kitchen in Los Angeles, CA. Born and raised in L.A., she began cooking and experimenting with flavors at a very young age. Raised by a single mother who worked late nights as a waitress, Paola & her older sister often had to cook for themselves. She learned early on the meals she cooked aided in the early termination of many sibling rivalries. As a result, she learned at an impressionable age, the power of a good meal in bringing people together. In her early 20’s Paola began experiencing serious health issues and started working with food as a key to heal both physical and mental health. Her newfound connection to her health gave her love of cooking a new purpose, to make food that makes you feel as good as it tastes. She is constantly inspired by foods ability to heal, connect and delight and with Los Angeles’ substantial diversity of flavor and culture, that inspiration is unfading.
