Jackfruit Carnitas Recipe Video

Whether you are new to healthy eating, have been following our journey or simply a food connoisseur,  it is safe to say that Jackfruit has become a common trend in healthy eating alternatives. And why wouldn’t it be? Jackfruit meat is easy to cook and can be used in a variety of recipes as a meat substitute. Jackfruit is high in fiber and high in nutrients like potassium, magnesium and vitamin C, all nutrients that aid in digestion, strengthen the immune system, boost energy while also lowering blood pressure. When cooked and prepared correctly, jackfruit’s consistency is very similar to carnitas and pulled pork, who wouldn’t love a healthy alternative to that?! We have received such great feedback about our jackfruit recipes, but we have also gotten a lot of questions about how to prepare it and where to purchase it. We thought, what better way to share our love of jackfruit, than to share one of our favorite and most simple recipes. One of the most common questions we’ve received is where to purchase jackfruit? While you may not always be able to find fresh jackfruit (we recommend local Asian markets or farmers markets), we rounded up some of our favorite canned versions that you will see in our video. Trader Joe’s currently sells canned jackfruit for less than $2 a can.

We used corn tortillas purchased at a local mercado and home made salsa topped with our very own Cashew Crema.


Jackfruit Carnitas Recipe

2 (20-oz) Cans of Jackfruit in Brine or Water, Drained and Rinsed
1/4 cup Orange Juice
1-2 Tbsp Canola Oil
1 Tbsp Salt
1 Tbsp Cumin
1/2 Tbsp Cayenne Pepper
1/4 Tsp Paprika
1/4 Tsp Oregano
1/4 Tsp Chili Flakes
Toppings of Choice

Steps

Rinse + pat dry Jackfruit

On medium heat, add jackfruit to cast-iron skillet

Once meat begins to soften, separate with wooden spoon + add spices

Add Orange Juice
